Grill’d Local Matters

Local Matters turns everyday dining at Grill’d into meaningful support for local schools, charities and organisations chosen by customers across Australia. The program channels customer donations directly to causes they care about, making it a tangible way to support local communities.

Approach

I led the visual design for Local Matters during a one-month contract with Grill’d. It was rewarding to work on a program I had grown up seeing in stores, and one that closely aligned with my values.

My role focused on translating the program’s familiar hand-drawn style into assets that could be applied consistently across materials, while preserving the look and feel that customers already recognised.

What worked well

  • Successfully rolled out the program across 170+ stores.

  • Maintained the hand-drawn style for icons and visual assets, keeping the program instantly recognisable to customers.

  • Balancing design consistency with a playful, approachable tone helped the materials feel friendly and engaging.

What I’d refine

  • The borders around logo boxes varied due to a last-minute change done by another team due to time limitations. Standardising this for future Local Matters rollouts would help the system feel even more unified.

  • Make body copy left-aligned for improved readability.
