Hi there, I’m Mich.
I started out as a marketer before I fell into – and then fell in love with – graphic design at my first job. I learned design out of pure necessity, and over time it became an integral part of my life.
Learning design by myself over the years has enabled me to learn practically by solving problems in the ‘real world’, while experimenting in my own world outside of work. Fast forward almost a decade later, I’m still here – learning, experimenting and loving design. Little Mich would’ve never imagined she gets to do this for a living (little Mich probably didn’t even know graphic design existed – even though it’s everywhere!).
In a lot of ways, my perspective is very much filtered through the lens of marketing. I’ll occasionally let a YouTube ad run its full course because I’d like to see where it goes. I pause in my tracks when I see an interesting billboard. I delight in smart copy that truly gets it. I’m deeply interested in the interplay between psychology and marketing, and how design can help bridge the gap between a need, want and desire – to a product or service that fulfils it.
I don’t always get it right, and that’s the beauty of this work. Design is exploration, iteration, staring at a blank screen-tion, testing, refining, again and again and again. I don’t have to get it right on the first go – in fact, there is no right or wrong. There is no life on the line (something I remind myself when I’m staring at a blank screen!).
My philosophy is simple: be relaxed. When you’re relaxed, you think better. You treat people better. You create better. And in design, as in life, it makes all the difference.
